Theresa L. Critchfield began her legal career as a litigator representing:

  • general contractors & owners

  • subcontractors & suppliers

  • regional & national developers

  • small & large business owners

  • commercial landlords & tenants

  • lenders & other creditors

After more than a dozen years of courtroom battles, she decided to put that litigation experience to work for her clients not only on the backend of a deal, when things went south, but also on the front end of the deal, helping to manage the risks and avoid litigation wherever possible.

In service to her clients and their industries, Theresa serves on the Tennessee Bar Association, Construction Section Executive Board and was the 2024/25 Chair, and the 2023/24 Vice-Chair. She is also a member of the Tennessee Association of Construction Council (TACC) where she has served as the ADR Committee Chair and currently serves as the Communications Chair.  She is a founding Board Member and Treasurer for Chattanooga's brand new chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction, and is a member of AGC of East Tennessee, where she has given seminars in ethics, best practices and minimizing risk. There is a forum member of the AGC America - Contracts Forum.  She has been invited to sit on several legislative update panels for the AGC statewide convention and serves on that organization's East Tennessee Legislative Committee.  Theresa has also authored published works for distressed business strategic planning (West Publications), and edited a publication for the Missouri Bankers Association as well as 2005 updates for The Developing Labor Law published by the American Bar Association.

She and her attorney husband have three daughters and two border collies, Georgia and Jake, a dachshund named DD (after American icons, Dolly Parton and Vince Dooley) and a "border-cat" named Kirby (Smart). In their free time, they enjoy camping, watching movies, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, all things Disney, runDisney and Girl Scouts.  Theresa is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Chattanooga and she and her husband currently serve as Board Members for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga. She and her family attend church at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
